Prekindergarten
GENERAL INFORMATION · The Pasadena ISD Prekindergarten is a half-day program. Morning and afternoon classes are available. · Children must be four years old on or before September 1 of the year they enroll. · Children must qualify to enroll in Prekindergarten. · Unlike assignment to grades K – 12, which is determined by the residential address of the parent or guardian, a child may enroll in any PISD school offering Prekindergarten classes. Space may be limited at each school.
· Out-of-district children, including the children of PISD employees, are not eligible for Prekindergarten enrollment.
· No transportation to or from Prekindergarten is provided. · A child cannot be enrolled in the Prekindergarten program until full eligibility has been established. · It is the responsibility of the parent to present all documents required for enrollment. · If it is determined that the child does not qualify for the Prekindergarten program, he/she will be promptly removed. CONDITIONS FOR ENROLLMENT
1. Children must have required documents before they apply for enrollment.
2. Children must be identified as “eligible” before they can be officially enrolled. 3. Once enrolled, students and parents will be held to the state Compulsory Attendance laws. Students may be withdrawn for failure to attend.
4. Prekindergarten students and parents are expected to comply with all PISD rules, codes, and policies.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF REGISTRATION TO ESTABLISH FULL ELIGIBILITY FOR PREKINDERGARTEN Proof of child’s age and identity Acceptable documents include the following: Original or certified copy of birth certificate Passport Military identification Adoption record Hospital birth record or Any other legal document that establishes identity
Complete immunization records
Proof of residence in the Pasadena Independent School District Acceptable documents include the following: Deed Mortgage / Payment Book Lease Current Utility Bill
QUALIFICATIONS (at least one of the following qualifications must be met and documented)
Educationally Disadvantaged – eligible after PISD Child Nutrition Service Department reviews the federal Free Lunch Program application and certifies qualification in the Free Lunch Program. To ensure prompt approval in the Free Lunch Program, you must use the on-line application to apply. Information (names and number of household members and income) must be accurate. You may be asked to provide proof.
Bilingual/ESL – eligible after committee approval
Military – eligible when parent presents proper military identification
Foster Care – eligible when proof is presented that the child is or has ever been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family Protective Services as a foster child
Homeless - eligible when identified by PISD Homeless Liaison
REGISTRATION DATES August 13, 2013 - Prekindergarten Early Registration (8:00 a.m. -- 3:00 p.m.) August 14-15, 2013 - All Grade Level Early Registration (8:00 a.m. -- 3:00 p.m.)
